  1. question~! (yyyaaayyyy)

I totally can't remember if you said this or not, but why did they finally decide to open it up again? I might have missed that sorry!

  2. @Wynne: I believe in the end they were beginning to reopen the site, but in a very limited capacity for the time being. (I really don't see how you could ever rebuild the area without a huge financial effort. It just seems too destroyed.)

@Tyska: The only thing I can see anymore in the photography is when you and I discussed this as being reminiscent as a bomb blowout. It's just so weird to think this place had such a quiet "end".

  3. I agree, I kept on agreeing with the name "ghost island" because it does look like everyone just disappeared suddenly.

I also wonder if they decided to open it up to prevent people from going there by themselves and possibly getting hurt.

  4. I think your project is so awesome! I guess maybe you want to think about the idea of an apocalyptic world... perhaps why there is such a fascination about the island is because of the fact that it seems completely man/machine dominated. With our cities becoming more and more driven my machines and technology, we're losing the original land; you really don't see big patches of land in huge developed areas!
Perhaps the fear and also the mystery of what could happen if technology was to overrun the land comes into mind. I suppose, think like Nausicaa or Metropolis in this sense! ^_^

  5. This is a really interesting project. Since you're looking at the fascination with its appearance, you might want to look at how one medium portrayal might compare to other media, like black and white vs color, or photo vs video.

  6. The way they presented the stopped clock and the tricycle in those videos...

It's kind of a baseball bat to the face connection to Hiroshima. Yeah. Maybe put those images side to side just to make that point?
